Northern Harrier Bob Steele Photography. Birds and other nature images.

I have been involved in birding and bird photography for over 20 years. I live in the bird-rich Kern County, California. This area is centrally located at the convergence of multiple bio-regions, giving me the opportunity to photograph many avian subjects. I also have traveled around the country and to Costa Rica and Australia to photograph species not available in my area.

My collection of images includes over 500 species of birds, many location and habitat photos, and images of local flowers, butterflies, and dragonfies. Up until October of 2003 I had been shooting exclusively with transarency film (Kodak E100SW and Fuji Provia). Then I made the switch to digital with the aquisition of a Canon 10D. In May of 2004 I added the Canon 1D MkII camera body with its 8.2 MP CMOS sensor, and in August 2007, the 10.1 MP Canon 1D Mk III.

My list of camera equipment includes:

  • Canon 1D Mk III digital body (10.1 Megapixe)
  • Canon 10D digital body
  • Canon 500mm f4 image stabilized lens
  • Canon 300mm f2.8 image stabilized lens
